Before You Buy

What you need to run your own Safelist Mailer

The software is designed for straightforward browser-based setup and daily use, but every owner needs a domain, compatible hosting, and basic website administration skills.

Member or owner?

A Central Hub member uses this existing website and needs no server. A script owner installs and operates a separate safelist website and is responsible for its domain, hosting, email delivery, configuration, security, backups, and members.

You must provide

  • A registered domain or subdomain you control
  • PHP-capable web hosting with a MySQL or MariaDB database
  • An active HTTPS/SSL certificate
  • Cron or scheduled-task access for mail queues and maintenance
  • An outbound email service, normally SMTP, suitable for permission-based bulk mail
  • Access to upload files, create a database, and edit DNS or hosting settings

Minimum server baseline

  • PHP 8.1 or newer
  • MySQL or MariaDB
  • PHP extensions: PDO, PDO MySQL, mbstring, JSON, OpenSSL, and session
  • PHP cURL when using Stripe payments
  • At least 1 GB RAM and 1 CPU core, or a shared-hosting plan with equivalent resources
  • At least 500 MB free disk space to start, plus room for database, logs, backups, and growth

Technical skill level: basic

You do not need to be a programmer. The guided installer and browser-based administration handle normal setup and daily operation. You should be comfortable using a hosting control panel and following step-by-step instructions.

Typical owner tasks include uploading files, creating a database and database user, opening the installer, adding scheduled jobs, entering SMTP and payment credentials, applying updates, reviewing logs, and keeping backups. If those tasks are unfamiliar, plan to use managed hosting or ask your host or a technician for initial setup help.

Quick readiness check

  • I control a domain.
  • My host meets the PHP and database requirements.
  • I can create cron/scheduled tasks.
  • I have a suitable SMTP/email provider.
  • I can manage routine updates and backups.

Actual capacity depends on member count, campaign volume, database growth, and your email provider. Upgrade hosting as usage grows.
